A UK mum has revealed how missing a body part has helped her make her mortgage payments as she spreads awareness of the issue.
In 2020, Holly Fleet, who goes by @stomababe online, was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis – a bowel disease that causes inflammation and ulcers in the digestive tract.
She was fitted with a colostomy bag and eventually underwent “Barbie bum” surgery – a procedure in which the rectum and anus are removed and permanently sutured.
Since then, Holly has been vocal online about how her life has been, sharing everything from her marathon experience, recovery from surgery and her journey to start a family.
And the 30-year-old revealed in a recent TikTok video that her effort to raise awareness has helped her collect a pretty penny thanks to social media views and likes.
“I saw this creator talking about how a video helped her pay off her mortgage this month,” she revealed.
“I just want to say that my lost pit is paying off my mortgage—well, my portion of the mortgage this month.
“I made enough money” thanks to everyone who watches me talk about my lost hole – keep watching and spread awareness.”
It comes just a week after she posted a photo of herself in a bikini, revealing that she feels much less insecure about her post-surgery body.
“I used to be super paranoid about every aspect of my figure, but now that I know how much my body has survived, I have nothing but respect for it,” she said.
“This body fought three open abdominal surgeries in two years and gave birth to my daughter.
“It’s not perfect, but it’s mine.”
Holly went viral earlier this year after revealing her terrifying experience while attending one of Taylor Swift’s concerts in the UK.
She said she was pushed by a mother and harassed when she was trying to use the bathroom, with people slamming the door of the disabled toilet.
“I had to keep going to the toilet and was treated with contempt every time I returned to my seat. Despite explaining that I have a medical condition,” she wrote on X after attending the Wembley Stadium concert.
I was wearing my sunflower lanyard to let people know I have a hidden condition and I was wearing my backpack of stoma supplies.
“One lady asked me to remove my backpack, even though I explained why I was wearing it.”
